Linda Carothers Obituary

Linda Jane Carothers was born on December 6, 1941 in Pocatello, ID, to Fred Wynn and Verda Wolverton. Her parents divorced and her mother married Guy Wilson in 1945. Linda graduated from Pocatello H.S. in 1960, and then completed secretarial training at business school. In 1961, she married Edwin Carothers in Pocatello, ID. They were married for 49 years and raised four children, during which time she upheld her duties as a Navy wife, enduring many deployments and holidays without her husband, but never losing her strength or love of her family. She lived in San Diego for over 40 years.

Linda, 70, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday morning, June 27.

Linda loved her children and grandchildren very much, and valued her many friends. She was an avid bowler and loved crafts, such as toile painting and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed playing with her dogs and watching baseball, forever rooting for the Padres. Linda lived a life of service, not only to family but to many others, donating time and money to many causes. Often, she opened her home to foster babies and others in need of a place to stay.

She had a strong belief and love of Jesus Christ, her Savior.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Kathleen, and her brother Fred. Surviving are her children and their spouses, Kelly (Lance), Donald (Kori), Lori (William) and Guy; eleven grandchildren Bethany, Colina, Javier, Joshua, Jeremy, Carlin, Catlin, Claire, Jane, Tyler and Sam; her brothers Michael, Danny and Layne; her sisters Georgia, Tony and Christy; and her dog Maggie.

A memorial service will be held at Clairemont Mortuary on July 10 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with her husband on July 12.

Edwin William Carothers - Obituary

CAROTHERS, EDWIN WILLIAM

Edwin William Carothers, 72, passed away surrounded by family at Sharp Memorial Hospital, San Diego, after an extended illness. Edwin was born on December 9, 1937 in Prescott, AZ, to Gerald Carothers and Dixie Black. After graduating from Monticello H.S. (UT), he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for 24 years. As an Electrician's Mate, he traveled the world, from Antarctica to Vietnam, earning five medals and achieving the rank of Senior Chief. He then worked in the Civil Service for 20 years. In 1961, he married Linda Wynn in Pocatello, ID. They were married for 49 years and raised four children. Edwin had a strong love of learning and reading; he also loved his family, his dogs and the Cub Scouts, in which he volunteered as Cub Master for ten years. He believed in Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was preceded by his parents, his brother Wade and a sister Ruth. Surviving are his wife, Linda; his children Kelly, Donald, Lori and Guy; eleven grandchildren; and sisters Lana, Kathy, Lynda and Elaine. A memorial service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery on August 26th, at 11:00 a.m. Please, no flowers.

My Dad, Edwin William Carothers, has passed away

My Dad, Edwin William Carothers, passed away on June 30, 2010 at 10:30pm surrounded by his family. He was a good man and will be missed by us all.

Billie Myrtle Dulin (Carothers)

Ancestry.com has California voter registration records. From these I have located Billie M. Dulin and Ralph Dulin in Modesto, CA in the 1940-1944 voter registration records. They are listed as Democrats and at the address Route 4, Box 420L, Modesto. Billie is listed as a housewife and Ralph as a laborer.

Opal Mae Moore death certificate received

The death of Opal Mae Moore at age 36 is sad. I have received the death certificate for Opal Mae Moore, maiden name Carothers, from the Stanislaus County clerk. She appears to have died from kidney failure caused by high blood pressure.

A Request for Ruby Lee Wilson's Obituary

I have sent a request for the obituary of Ruby Lee Wilson, maiden name Carothers, to the State Historical Society of Missouri. I have had great luck with them in the past. After I get Ruby's obituary I will request the obituary for her husband, Benjamin Harrison Wilson.

Ben H. Wilson - Husband of Ruby Carothers

I have located the death certificate for Ben H. Wilson on the Missouri State Archives website. Ben was listed as the husband of Ruby Carothers at the time of her death in 1940. If this is the same Ben, he did not live much longer than she did. He passed away in 1944 at the age of 50 and his marital status is widowed. His residence is listed as 308 West Cherry Street, Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri. Ben was buried in the Balltown Cemetery as was Ruby.

Ruby Carothers Death Certificate Located!

What a find! I have been trying to discover what became of all of the descendants of Orlando Carothers and his wife Mary Elliott for some time. His daughter Ruby has always been a mystery. I could find very little about her.

I have located the death certificate for Ruby Carothers at the online Missouri State Archives, Missouri Death Certificates online. I recently learned about Ruby's sister Opal's death in California, and discovered in the obituary no mention of her sister Ruby. Opal passed away in 1941. The last information I had for Ruby was in the 1930 US Census she was living with her sister in Nevada, Missouri. So I determined that Ruby had passed away sometime between 1930 and 1941. I decided to try a narrow search for Ruby, only looking in Vernon County, Missouri between 1930 and 1941. I used only her first name in the search as she had likely married. In each year there was either 0, 1 or 2 Ruby's who had passed away. I found Ruby's death certificate in the 1940 search.

Ruby Lee Wilson died in 1940, June 24. She was married to Ben H. Wilson. She was living in Osage Township in Vernon County, Missouri. Ruby was buried two days later on June 26th in the Balltown Cemetery in Vernon County.

Harry Moore, husband of Opal Mae Moore (Carothers)

Some interesting entries in the California Death Records:

Harry Z. Moore, born 02/12/1897 North Carolina, died 07/18/1956 in Kern County, CA at age 59
Harry Zeno Moore, born 02/07/1931 in North Carolina, died 12/05/1958 in Stanislaus, CA at age 27

These men could be father and son. Harry Sr. is a possible candidate for Opal Moore's husband at the time of her death. Harry Sr. would have been about 44 years old to Opal's 36 years. Harry Jr. would have been about 12 years old. There are other Harry Moore's in the record. I'll have to check them out sometime.

Opal Mae Moore, 36, Passes Away Here

Mrs. Opal Mae Moore, 36, a resident of Modesto for three years and of California for seven years, died in a hospital here yesterday afternoon after an extended illness. She was a native of Missouri.

Besides her husband, Harry Moore of Modesto, she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Caruthers of Missouri, and two sisters, Edith Lucas of Modesto and Myrtle Dulin of Missouri.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Shannon Chapel with Rev. H. T. Langley officiating. Internment will be in the Citizens Cemetery.

I was skimming through search results on ancestry.com for more references to Earl L. Lucas and didn't think anything relevant would appear in the 30s and 40s when I found the preceding obituary. Good thing I wasn't skimming too fast or I would have missed it.

This is a very informative obituary for me. First, it mentions Opal and that she came to California and was married. It provides her married name and that of her sisters. I did not know that Opal married Harry Moore and came to California, nor that Myrtle married a Dulin and stayed in Missouri. As Ruby is not mentioned, it appears she may have already passed away. This obituary has generated many new leads to check out in learning about this branch of the Carothers family!
